COVID-19: Lockdown on Schools or Students' Future?

Doomed are those who think- "Education is an option". No, my friend, it is a necessity. One that can't be ignored, postponed or set aside for any period of time. For a world population of 7.8 billion, we only have 3000000 schools(approximately) which cater to 1.29 billion students. The pandemic has shut every possible medium of physical education, small and big. Almost 1 billion students have been affected by this, especially the students who are residing in under-developed countries. The students are fearful that they might be falling behind in their education since the schools are closed to contain the vast spread of the coronavirus. Seemingly the only solution to this problem so far is to provide remote education using different technological mediums. Internet, being the revolutionary epitome of all communication, is the best tool in our hands to curb this problem. Online teaching has been a propagative learning medium for students from quite some time now. YouTub...

COVID-19: What Does The Future Hold?

The COVID-19 virus is surely something that needs no introduction. With close to 5 million cases worldwide, and around 300,000 deaths over the past 6 months, I think it is safe to say that the virus has successfully infiltrated all of our lives in one way or another. However, here is some food for thought: will the impacts of the virus ever truly go away? Will it ever leave our lives? Will we ever be free from its fallout and the repercussions of the virus? The impact of the Coronavirus (Source: Atlantic Council) Well, in medical terms, the timelines for an effective vaccine (No, Gangajal doesn’t count. Neither do pigeons.) is estimated to be anywhere from 8 months to over 2 years. But that’s not the bigger question? With the trillions of dollars being poured into the research, and the efforts being made, sooner or later we will have a cure. So, then what is this article about? This is about the other secondary and unintended consequences that the virus may have on the way peop...

Optimum Utilisation of BCCI Resources: Post COVID-19!

The world has definitely been pushed behind for at least a couple of years due to the outbreak of Global Pandemic Coronavirus. There has been a global economic crisis and almost every nation in the world is suffering and fighting in one way or the other. The world of sports has also been drastically affected and looks to be in a miserable condition. With monetary resources being dried up currently, there are many young and struggling sports personalities who are having a very hard time in this tough situation. They don't have adequate money and resources to live a life. Similar concerns can arise in the case of the Boards or the Sporting Federations. With no tournament at sight in near future and scheduled series and tours being indefinitely postponed or cancelled, all these boards are bound to lose a hefty amount of money which they’ll otherwise be getting as a source of revenue. In one of my articles, I have already talked about the impacts of Corona on Cricket. (Sour...

Indian Traditions and COVID-19: What Can The World Learn?

India has often been known for its rich culture and varied traditions. Indian traditions and culture vary like its vast geography. Indian culture is incredibly complex and resembles a chaos of mind-boggling proportions but, under this seeming chaos is a scientific foundation that is thousands of years old. Many traditions in Indian culture that we label today as blind superstitions; have scientific explanations behind them. What makes Indian traditions different is its scientific approach towards physical and mental well-being.  The Westerners never really looked at the Indian traditions favourably and always tagged them as superstitions.  But, it’s time that the world learns from the Indian culture and traditions in order to fight the battle against COVID- 19. There is a reason why India inspite of its huge population has got relatively less cases of COVID-19, the reason lies in its deeply rooted traditions. So I decided to dive deeper into the Indian traditions...

What Has COVID-19 done to Musk?

If you have been following Indian politics at all in the last 5 years, then you must be no stranger to the words “Fascist” and “Anti-National” right? Well, but did you ever imagine that they would be used to describe the Coronavirus and the resulting lockdown from it? Well, that just happened. And no, this was not from some IT cell member or a keyboard warrior with just 4 followers on Twitter ranting his head off, this was from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Musk, who has been widely hailed as the greatest living entrepreneur in the world, with a whole bunch of revolutionary ideas and over 40 billion US$ in net worth. Source: Wikipedia Yes, that’s right. The man who took on the entire banking system with PayPal, and won. The man who took on the entire automobile industry with Tesla, and won. The man who wanted to build a tunnel between two cities thousands of miles apart just because he was stuck in traffic. This very guy, on live TV, said that the Coronavirus...

21 Day Lockdown in India - An Analysis

It seems that the Indian government has finally taken a major and decisive step to help combat Coronavirus – starting today the 25 th of March 2020, the entire nation has been placed in a 21-day lock-down. Modi, in his address to the country yesterday at 8pm, said that social distancing is the only way to combat this virus.  This move came after the government observed a lack of conformity to the Janta Curfew on Sunday the 22 nd of March 2020. Several individual states and cities had also implemented lock-down measures but they were not as effective. Therefore, in accordance with the powers that have been vested with the Central government under the National Disaster Management Act of 2005, the nation has been put into a complete lock-down.  As a consequence of this, stepping outside one’s house for any non-essential task is now penalizable. Already over 200 cases have been registered against various individuals in Uttar Pradesh for not conforming to curfew...
